Dr. Tootla is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon. He attended
medical school in Durban, South Africa and graduated with honors. All
his post graduate education was in the United States. His general
surgery residency was completed at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak, Michigan and he subsequently obtained his board certification, followed
by a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Temple University
Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Tootla has presented papers and posters at the American College
of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and at the American College of Surgeons.
Several of his papers have been published in prestigious journals. His
scope of practice pertains to the colon, rectum, anus and the small bowel.
Dr. Tootla treats diseases such as colon cancer, diverticulitis, ulcerative
colitis, crohns disease, polyps and lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
Conditions such as hemorrhoids, abscesses, fistulae, fissures and pilonidal
are treated with the latest techniques with very little or no pain.
One of Dr. Tootla's interests is laparoscopic surgery, where
the procedure is performed through incisions of 1cm. or less. He
is one of the first surgeons in the country to use the da Vinci®
